The Post-Modern literary time period started in 1941 and there is no distict dates for the rise and fall of its popularity. "Postmodernist approaches are critical of the possibility of objective knowledge of the real world, and consider the ways in which social dynamics such as power and hierarchy affect human conceptualizations of the world to have important effects on the way knowledge is constructed and used. In contrast to the modernist paradigm, postmodernist thoughts often emphasize idealism, constructivism, relativism, pluralism and scepticism in its approaches to knowledge and understanding."Main elements of post-modernism that we are familair with are feminism and narratives. Post modernism is definately a huge influence on Amy Tan's "The Joy Luck Club" because the whole book is about the struggles that women deal with while changing not only counries, but culture as well. Also, the whole book is a narrative, each chapter is a different narrator speaking.
